In fact, more pets are euthanized for behavioral reasons than for all medical conditions combined. That means that by seeking a solution to your pet's behavior problem you are making the decision to work with your pet to keep them in your family. That's exactly why I became interested in applied animal behavior.
The most common problems that lead to relinquishment of dogs and cats are aggression to animals or people, barking, destructive behavior, housesoiling, unruliness, chewing, fears and phobias and compulsive behaviors. Most of these problems CANNOT be solved by obedience instruction alone. This is where an applied animal behavior counselor, with specific education and clinical experience, is required.
